Sandra and I have been involved in dogs since the 1970’s. I first trained and bred border collies and Sandra was involved in Miniature Poodles.
When we married in 1996 we purchased a Jack Russell Terrier and became involved in the history, hunting and exhibiting of this breed. I was the President of the Jack Russell Terrier Club at the time of Recognition of the breed with the A.N.K.C. and later bred and exhibited Parson Russell Terriers and Manchester Terriers.
It was in 1990 that Sandra found a picture of an English Toy Terrier in a dog magazine and decided then and there that this was the breed for her. After many fruitless enquiries we discovered that the All Breeds Judge Betty Stepkovich had a couple of English Toy Terriers and was good enough to let us have a dog and a bitch. The dog was CH. Kethran Lord Timothy and the bitch was Kennington Starlight. After several attempts three pups were born and the start of the Sasndash Kennels. These pups were later to be known as CH. Sasndash Lord Timothy, CH. Sasndash Lord Litchfield and CH. Sasndash Perle Noir whose picture is still to be seen on dog show clips to this day.
Three New Zealand English Toy Terriers were then purchased and the male NZ CH. and CH. Juleko Conan Doyle changed the style of our future English Toy Terriers.
A male was then purchased from Roy and Mary Wilson’s kennels in Devon U.K. (Aust. CH. Amalek High Hopes) also known as Roy to us. Roy has left his stamp on the dogs from our kennels and cemented the style for the future.
We then imported a male from Sarra and Jarko Kannanen of Finland (Fin. CH. & CH. Khanbulls Sire’s Moonray) also known as Ramses. Ramses further improved the type and attitude of our English Toys.
Ch. Amalek High Hopes (IMP U.K) and CH. Sasndash Perle Noir produced our first All Breeds Best In Show winner CH. Sasndash Prince O Wales.
Later FIN. CH and CH. Khanbulls Sires Moonray (IMP Fin) and CH Sasndash Crystal Perl produced our second All Breeds Best in Show winner CH. Sasndash Ebonyngold who was Best of Breed Sydney Royal 2011 and still going from strength to strength. CH. Sasndash Ebonyngold is a grand daughter of CH. Amalek High Hopes (IMP UK).
In June 2010 Amalek Fly Me to the Moon also known as Ozzy was also imported from Roy and Mary Wilson of Amalek Kennels Devon UK and he has now achieved his Australian Championship. We hold great hopes for the future progeny of Ozz’s in the show ring.
The breed now seems to be gaining popularity once again and now numbers can be seen around the show ring.
